Folks,
I was a Democratic greeter for 2 hours yesterday at an early voting location in a Republican area of our county. I usually spent most of my time in Durham and Chapel Hill which is 80% or so Democratic. So I'm in a Democratic bubble so to speak. We have 5 early voting locations in Orange County(100 counties in the state), this one being the most remote, I was voter 1275 at this location.
I have a question for you and I do not intend to offend any of you. I feel everyone is entitled to there opinions. One of the Republican greeters had the entire back window of his truck with a sign saying "With Obamacare I'm a Dead man". I inquired politely as possible about the sign. Angrily he replied that he'd had his chest cut open and dozens of surgeries and complications and with Obamacare the death panel would mean the end of him. That 15 men would decide his fate, do any of you believe this fantasy? The other two greeters seemed to agree with him on his stance about Obamacare.
Another big question I have is how can the local Republicans let this man work as a greeter and not inform him that death panels are an out right falsehood.
Explained to him that Obamacare has lifted his cap on insurance monetary limits and pre existing conditions. But he dis claimed all that I told him. Later he came over and thanked us for coming out and we shook hands.
Sorry to go off topic here, with trying to understand this.

Sadly some people are just allergic to facts.
PS Hopefully he took in your information about Obama's health care plan, just not right when you told him.
Can't explain everyone out there.
reality tunnels...everybody has one...it's the ride..
I find the lies and constant repeating of those lies disheartening. Tell the truth and let the electorate decide by using their brains.
Like the latest lie? Jeep will be moving its plant overseas "I read it somewhere" was Romney's quote. Bullshit. (to quote Obama)
For the past 7 years, I have lived in TX in one of the most conservative counties in the State, so I am in the minority here. I have learned something that has not been pleasant.
There are some people for whom facts are troublesome things because they undermine the logos on their tee shirts: "Put the White back in the White House". Yes, I've seen this and worse: "Don't Re-Nig in 2012". How do you discuss policy issues with this mindset? It's not policy that is their issue.
Thanks for your efforts, but It isn't that you could have said it any better; it's that he doesn't want to hear anything that challenges his stance. His mind's made up; information won't change it.
Bias. It's a disease. My MIL will not listen to facts, my brother argued that my facts needed fact checking, and we were talking about issues documented in the Congressional Record.
I wish I had grace and patience in the face of this craziness.
A family friend said Obama ruined his small business. He couldn't explain exactly how, but he sure blames the man. The economy screwed our small business, that plus insanely escalating health care costs.
I'm beginning to fear for the fate of an ill informed, fearful electorate.
Kudos to you for volunteering. It's good to have both parties represented, hopefully armed with facts and courtesy.
I'm hoping beyond hope that Obama wins.
Some people will believe any propaganda, and facts can't shake them. Some people are crazy. It is sad that uninformed people are working as greeters, though.
I do know people who are not Democrats that are quite happy about Obamacare's coverage of pre-existing conditions!
I like Sweetbays comment, "...allergic to facts." People believe whatever is convenient to support their fears.
Kim and I mailed our ballots in long ago, I like that.
Once an opinion is formed, it is very difficult for some people to believe anything that does not fit into their opinion. I have been constantly amazed at what some people are willing to believe about the candidates in this election, and more importantly what they are willing to overlook.
I'm truly stunned by what people choose to believe rather than reading reliable, fact-based news and non-partisan government reports.
We voted on the first day and I couldn't believe the elderly who were wearing Romney buttons. They don't understand the Medicare/Medicaid threat.
I'd hate to lose ObamaCare before we see the benefits. As a woman, I'm already paying TWICE the health care premium of my husband. Guess what my pre-existing condition is? A C-section when I had my son in 1984. Crazy.
Some people seem to zero in on one thing and have their mind set. Too much hearsay and not enough education...
Well, the results are in and it's clear that you came close to Obama success in North Carolina. So close. Keep up the good work and maybe you will succeed next time. All of these elections come down to persuading one person at a time. For our part it was high fives to everyone in sight in Maryland on election eve...
Apparently we are not a nation of wealthy white people after all...
Now, back to the garden...
