Finally Winter Arrives

Last night we received almost two inches of snow. Today it mostly melted. It was wet snow and weighted down the hellebores and camellias to the ground nearly. No harm was done.

As many of you might already know we have not really had a real winter here.

First time we had ice in the rain chains!!
This is the chair I sit in to watch the bees come and go at the hive. It did not take long for the snow to vanish here.
This Helleborus foetidus  was featured last week on this blog it was 3 foot tall last week.
These hellebores were featured last week on this blog, see what they looked like last week.

The mid morning the sun was shining and the snow was melting off the roof. The rain chains were lit in the sun asI took this video sideways. Took about an hour as I learned to use Imovie and flipped the movie over and uploaded it to YouTube.

Thanks to all of you that signed (and Tweeted) the petition for the EPA to do the right thing and not allow a pesticide that might be harming the bee populations in the USA. Better science is needed to make sure this stuff is safe for future generations of honey bees.

We only had rain and the few daffodils were face down. Hope your Hellebores spring back.
Had to laugh about it taking you a long time to get the video flipped and uploaded. Glad you got it straight.

Well, mission accomplished! Now, it's time for spring! Love hellebores, such tough plants!

The snow was beautiful at your place Randy. We just got rain during the day and a little sleet at night. Had to blanket the horses for the first time this winter.

Randy I agree the word verficiation is a real pain, but the spammers have stepped it up lately and started commenting even through the other verficiation -- is there an alternative?

....wow.....beautiful! I wish we had gotten some of that snow. We just got cold temps, but it's supposed to be back to the 50s soon, so that's good. We haven't had a winter either. It's been strange. I've been AWOL for over a week so have missed a lot. I need to go back. I'll pop over to the bee act too.

PS Randy I decided to switch to allowing only registered users to post and turned off word verification.

The chair photo is a lovely scene on that path.

We barely missed this storm, just cold wind and rain. I am not sorry, but looking at your photos I see we did miss some photo ops.

The snow is stunning in the landscape and even coating your Hellebores. I know they will spring right back up when it melts. Poor man's fertilizer you have naturally spread about. Amen! To the EPA petition. How are you listed on twitter? I would like to follow you. ;>)

Hour hellebores will be fine, I'm sure. I'll look forward to your next post on them. :-)
