Today I added a new section of vegetable garden for Meg to plant potatoes, hope it is not too late to plant them. She planted them a labyrinth design, it is pretty cool. Then we pulled the kale, rape, mustard greens, half the arugula, radishes and mizuna. These were all bolting and it is time for tomatoes and peppers ect. The wheelbarrow was full and over flowing with bolted greens, I'd say 150 to 200 pounds of them. I feel like a murderer. We did get to eat most of that stuff daily if we wished for 3 1/2 months. The cold frames have been put away.
So on the harvest list we still have red mustard, lots of mixed lettuce and arugula. The sugar snap peas should be producing in a week or so. Also have carrots, green onions, red onions and garlic that could be harvested too. Kohlrabi is pretty big but not bulbing out yet.
The remainder of the French Breakfast Radishes. I'm sure we ate a lot more than this 2-3 pound harvest that is going in the icebox.
Grumpy was pretty thirsty drinking out of one of the birdbaths.
False Solomon's Seal, Smilacina racemosa growing wild in the hellebore garden. Also there is lots of Bellworts too, past flowering.
Speaking of hellebores I harvested some seeds today of Meg's Mother's dark red hellebores and several I for from our friend Breezy. The seeds should be opening in the next few days. Anyone wanting to trade seeds let me know? You can see the hellebores that bloomed this year here.
Last note, the bee hive was installed overlooking to pond today. Hope it is not too close to the Bluebird Box that is now in use. Both bluebird boxes now have residents.

Hi Randy... thanks for visiting my site. I've really enjoyed following the construction of your bottle wall... pretty unique and awesome! That bearded iris in your last post looks an awful lot like 'Stepping Out'. Slow spring here this year... spent the afternoon visiting nurseries and looking for (and finding) Lewisias and intersectional peonies... take care, Larry
Wow that's a lot of beautiful radishes. Your blue flower bottles is exceptionally amazing and beautiful. Congratulations on a project which is almost finished now, i remember your posts when you are still asking for bottles.
I don't even like radishes much and those look tasty! How fortunate you are to have such a plentiful harvest already! Congrats!
Very cool!
I hope by "residents" you either mean you got bluebirds, tree swallows, or chickadees in those boxes. We have nest boxes too — and we always have problems with those european sparrows...
Best of luck : )
Radishes look yummy! Wow! I love radish curry!
Bluebirds! That must be exciting!
A labyrinth of potatoes? That's intriguing. I hope you post a photo!
I think you can plant potatoes any time. I usually do 2 crops here - spring and fall - and I just got the last of the spring crop planted a week or so ago.
Love the radishes and the idea of a labyrinth of 'taters!
Love the radishes, wow, a temperate garden is such a wonderful place when winter is over! We in the tropics do not know much about your seasons except from reading, but cannot fail to wonder and marvel at the wondrous photos of plants and flowers that we see online or in the media!
Those radishes are beautiful. You have a fine vegetable garden. Grumpy looks like the same bright orange shade as my Tommy.
That should be fun, digging potatoes in a labyrinth. I dug potatoes yesterday in a neighbor's garden. Straight rows are fun, too.
What a great bunch of radishes Randy. I cannot grow them here and I love the things. They always get pithy on me or not grow at all. Those kitty's do find a way. LOL!
Potato garden as art! Love the idea. That's quite a harvest of radishes.
Wow on the radishes! You must have a huge vegetable garden.
On the hellebore seeds I picked a pod yesterday and the seeds inside were still white. Should they be brown? I am hoping I don't miss them. The pods are plump and ready but not turning yet. I plan to grab you some. If I could figure out how to safely get you seedlings I'd much rather that as I have lots but I'm not sure they'd mail well. I'll keep watching the seeds.
I love French Breakfast radishes, they never disappoint! I'm thinking maybe you need a few chickens. When we pulled our kale, spinach, and tatsoi a few weeks ago, the chickens and turkeys made out like bandits! The advantage of giving it to them, is I didn't completely fill up the compost pile!
Had word yesterday that our two bee packages will arrive Thursday afternoon! We'll be up to four hives by the weekend! Can't wait to see your new bees move in to their new hive too :)
Grew the French Breakfast Radishes for the fist time this year. Wish I had had the numbers you were harvesting. I just love radishes and will be planting triple what I did this past winter.
Randy, Your garden is light years ahead of ours, we just cannot seem to warm up around here. I'm not going to plant potatoes this year, there's no point. I will live vicariously through your potatoes and am very interested in seeing Meg's planting pattern when they come up.
The radishes are radiant, double bonus there, pretty and tasty. There is always more work to do than we can get done, isn't there? But have you ever met a gardener who was bored with life? I believe the work keeps us optimistic. (And just a little stiff and sore at times.)
Hugs to Grumpy and Tin Man - what a good people you are for saving Mr Tin and giving him a new home - job well done. :)
Bluebirds in the birdhouses! What could be more delightful.
