Wandering peacock invades the chicken coop!

March already? Where does time go? And day light savings time just started.

Today I got home and found Meg lounging in the back yard. She tells me there is a peacock in the other side of the yard. I went around the corner to find this guy in the chicken coop. This fan on this peacock is 8-9 foot wide, can you believe that?

A little background on peacocks around here. For the past 5-6 years they have been kept across the gully at our back neighbors. They are loud to the point of being a nuisance from March until July, during their mating season. They call all night long and really loud. Guess who loves to have the windows open at night?

Never have I gotten a photo opportunity like this tonight. Great lighting and the peacock acted as if he lived here. The hens acted like he was not in their coop, no reaction what so ever to him.

The span of that fan is like 8-9 foot, he's a big one!
My favorite shot in the entire series!

Now this is a close up. I took this by setting the camera lens on the fence wire to steady the camera, he was 4-5 foot away.
The chickens just ignored him, see they could care less. I wonder if we still had a rooster what he'd have done? Flash the rooster died this winter.

Absolutely stunning. I think I'd get used to his calling to have this view each day.

Stunning indeed! I am amazed the chickens ignored him. I wouldn't like hearing them all the time, either.

Wow, Randy, great pictures! Looks like the hens were less than impressed by this stellar display; I wonder if it hurt his feelings?

The beauty of the peacock 'almost' makes up for the startling shrieks they emit; a friend of ours owned a peacock in town and needless to say, he wasn't the most favorite neighbor in the 'hood.

Love the photos, truly amazing.

Your photos are outstanding, Randy. He is just gorgeous...despite his annoying racket! Glad he doesn't bother your chickens. I would just love to see one in my yard. I believe I've seen them in zoos, in the past. I'm glad to see you're blogging again...you have the best photos! These look like illustrations...colorful drawings; almost to 'surreal' to be 'real' !

Love those photos! Beautiful! I've never seen a peacock that close.
Kim accidentally shut a feral cat in the chicken coop one night. By the time I let them out the next afternoon the cat let me pick her up to get her out of there. The hens ignored her.

That is absolutely amazing. Wonderful photos. Afraid all we have here are the plain old turkeys although they do look pretty good when they fan out their tails. I hear their gobbling in the woods. I am sure you hear the peacocks too. Rather a mournful sound which always reminds me of being in the old deserted city of Ayutthya in Thailand.

Wow, what a photo opportunity! Superb shots. Talk about 'not in my backyard'!

Wow, gorgeous! I saw a peacock once with its feathers fanned out, and it is such an impressive site! Sadly, it was in a big coop with fencing all around, so I couldn't get good pictures of it. That one was prancing in front of chickens as well - I guess male peacocks just have an urge to impress! I hope they start quieting down for you, so you can open your windows more!

Though your photos show just how pretty a peacock can be, I have heard they are no friend to gardeners.

Fantasic photos, great captures, the colors are stunning. My mom grew up on a farm with peacocks, and they can be a noisy pain. But so pretty to look at!

Great images of a beautiful bird! I don't know why you don't love the sweet sound of their horrifying shrieks in the middle of the night.
