New Camellia and bulbs

Yesterday I found a white camellia that we saw at Duke Gardens last year Camellia sasanqua 'Setsugekka'. It was at the local garden center by Megs school it was a 4 ft tall plant and only $25 so I picked it up. Now to find a spot for a really big camellia, Duke Gardens Setsugekka was 15 ft tall and 10 ft in diameter with lots of large white blooms.
Camellia sasanqua 'Setsugekka' in a 3 gallon pot with lots of buds!

I also picked up 12 Crocus Sativus which is the Autumn Saffron Crocus, planted them beside the driveway so we would not miss them if they do bloom this fall. 12 for $5 seemed pretty good, should have picked up a few more dozen, I just love crocus. This is the crocus that they harvest saffron from!

New bulbs not yet planted:
8 Daffodil Misty Glen (large cupped white with a greenish center)
8 Daffodil Broadway Star (split corona white with orange and white corona)
5 Daffodil Double Poet's Daffodil (white on white heirloom dates back to 1601)
25 Anemones blanda (mixed windflowers)
15 Wood Hyacinth (a pink heirloom that can grow in shade)

Sigh. I have camellia envy, because they don't grow here, so I just admire yours and others down south. Don't panic about the bulbs...you have lots of time, and not that many to do. Unless, like me, you go into a store and find them on sale...

Wow! That Camellia is in a 3 Gal. pot! How robust! Look at all those buds. Great find. I am sighing next to Jodi. I can only enjoy them at the Smith College Glasshouse. Lovely collection of bulbs. You are right Randy your spring will come along much sooner than ours here in New England. ;>)

I love crocus the moment i've seen them the first time in Turkey in the natural habitat high up in the mountains near the snowcaps, and they went well with snowdrops which are also awesome. But of course, your camellia photo is beautiful too.

Oh, I love that pristine white camellias, good score Randy! the fall crocus are so sweet, hope you get lots of saffron whenever they bloom. We have had to wait 2 years for ours, they only seem to flower every other year, foliage only the first year planted. Hope yours are every year! :-)

Thanks for stopping by Nyack Backyard - nice to "meet" you and your blog! Oh, I have to get out there and plant some bulbs soon. I would love to get some of those special saffron crocus too. It's only certain varieties that produce the spice, right? Love the white daffodils.

Sad that I cannot grow camellias....

Gorgeous Camellia, white is my fav colour. Noticed your list of bulbs to plant. Mine is slightly longer and I guestimate I have about 1000 of them to plant but am still waiting for 1 more order to arrive.

Happy gardening!

OT There's beauty in pretty much anything if we have eyes to see. Stumperies are fun, beautiful and save you a lot of work.

Beautiful camellia Randy. I'd love to have crocus but would need to plant them in gravel -- the hungry voles here just love them!
