First double Hellebore!

This morning I found our first double hellebore blooming in the garden. It is a Pine Knot Farms 'Southern Belles' Double Pink. I purchased it late is the season last year and this is our first ever double bloom in the garden! It is a tiny bloom perhaps at best 1 1/2 inches across.

Other news in the garden on Saturday we had 5 different crocuses blooming in the garden and our first daffodil. Never had a daffodil or the other 4 crocus bloom in January before.
We have two of these open, very tiny I think there are Crocus vernus 'Jeanne d'Arc'
 Crocus chrysanthus 'Gipsy Girl'
Just a couple of these have started to bloom. Crocus sieberi "Tricolor"

  2. Really good to see color in a garden but I shouldn't wish to rush our season... nice color on the hellebore! Larry

  3. That's a really nice looking Hellebore. Ours are mostly still in the very pregnant bud stage, but we have two 60 degree days coming up...

  5. Beautiful blooms Randy....I've given up growing crocus except the Tommies and C sieber 'Tricolor'. I treat tricolr like a annual cause the rodents dine on it. gail

  6. Our Hellebores have decided to take their sweet time. I was sure they'd be blooming by now. I love that double! The Crocuses are such pretty colors.

  9. Hi Randy, i echo what Carol wrote, i love to see you with the flowers too! If you don't like that, then be with the butterflies! I am glad you put the size of the flower, i haven't seen them and with your shot i thought it is big. Now i can visualize their real sizes. I still remember the purple crocus from last year's post, because they are really delightful.

  12. I love bulbs. You have some beautiful varieties growing in your garden. I will say, just like my citrus trees, that when a plant produces fruit or a bloom for the first time on its own in the garden, there's nothing quite like the emotion of excitement at seeing the first bloom. Hope you have more.

  13. My crocus have just started coming up. You can barely see them. My hellebores are tiny seedlings given to me by a friend so I'll have to wait a few more years for blooms, perhaps. Yours are beautiful.

  14. Congrats on the double Hellebore. I remember your beautiful reporting about Hellebores last year, too. Thanks for the glimpses of spring!

  15. I'm starting to realize that this part of California doesn't have such a perfect climate after all. We only have rosemary in bloom. Our bulbs are way behind this year with the lack of rain. I clearly need to move somewhere warmer ;) I love that pink double hellebore, the color is stunning, and the pattern on the Gipsy Girl crocus is beautiful!

  16. I enjoyed scrolling down to see what you've been up to. When I saw the January 30th date on this post, I was shocked! Well, spring does come earlier your way. The countdown is in full swing, and I am now having trouble being patient for spring to get here. We are expecting some highs in the 40s this week, so the snow will soon be gone.
